Sacred Heart Academy Awarded Grant

Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead was recently awarded $10,000 through the Optimum Lightpath Transforming Education with Technology Grant program.  Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell (right) joined Sacred Heart Academy President Sister Jeanne Ross (2nd from right), Optimum Lightpath representatives Philip Grassia (left) & Jeff Clark (2nd from left) and Sacred Heart Academy Principal Sister Joanne Forker (3rd from left) in presenting the award to faculty and students at Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart was one of eleven schools selected by Optimum Lightpath from over 150 applicants on Long Island to advance the use of technology in the classroom.  As an all-female school serving students from communities across the island, the grant funding will assist Sacred Heart in supporting physics, chemistry and biology classes through the integration of technological tools to aid with skill development in an effort to close the gender gap in these fields of study.  They will be implementing the use of specialized interfaces, adapters and probes in conjunction with ‘smart’ devices to broaden the educational experience.
