Nassau County's Edward P. Mangano Appointed To CEA Board

(released by County Executives Of America)

The Board of Directors of the County Executives of America (CEA), a non-partisan organization based in Washington D.C. and representing over 700 member counties with the executive form of government, recently appointed Nassau County NY Executive Edward P. Mangano to its ranks. County Executive Mangano took office in January.

Members of the CEA Board held a special session September 23 while on an economic development and trade mission to various regions in Germany. During the meeting, CEA President Maggie Brooks of Monroe County (Rochester, NY) and President Pro-Tempore Jack Johnson, executive of Prince George’s County MD, made the motion and second to add executive Mangano to the Board. Mr. Mangano began service on the Board immediately and will attend a meeting with his colleagues in Washington D.C. in late November.

Since taking office, County Executive Mangano’s top priority has been to rebuild Nassau County’s economy to create jobs and put people back to work. Within his first 100 days in office, Mr. Mangano reduced the public payroll, including highly paid managers by $22 million. In April Mangano issued two emergency Executive Orders that included solutions for fixing Nassau County’s “broken property tax assessment system” which has cost the county more than $1.2 billion.

Prior to being elected County Executive, Mr. Mangano served as a Nassau County Legislator for seven terms, had a successful career in printing and publishing newspapers and was a practicing attorney.

“The County Executives of America Board of Directors welcomes Edward Mangano to its ranks,” CEA Executive Director Michael Griffin announced. “County Executive Mangano will work directly with his colleagues from across the nation on the issues affecting county government leaders and the people they represent. As the leader of a large urban/suburban county, he will lend a unique perspective to the organization and its work. I look forward to working with him during these challenging times.”
