Mangano: Wage Freeze Begins Today

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that a wage and longevity pay freeze officially took effect today, April 1, for all full-time and part-time County employees. Together with other budget cuts, the County Executive is taking the actions necessary to protect homeowners and employers from a 21.5% property tax increase.

“Since the last thing Nassau families need in these tough economic times is a double-digit property tax increase, I have frozen government salaries and cut millions in additional spending,” said County Executive Mangano. “This is the first step toward achieving the savings needed to fix Nassau’s finances once and for all. If voluntary concessions for 2012 fail, I will be forced to implement additional layoffs. ”
