Mangano Announces 24th Annual Salute To Veterans At Eisenhower Park

Mangano & Dental Society Team up to Provide Free Oral Cancer Screening at the Salute to Veterans Event

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre will host the 24th Annual Salute to Veterans program on Friday, August 5, 2011.

The ceremony honoring the Veterans will begin at 6:45 p.m. The evening will be dedicated to the Tuskeegee Airmen. After the ceremony and the traditional “Roll Call of the States,” the show will begin at 7:30 p.m., beginning with a performance by the USO Liberty Bells.

The headliners for the evening will be Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops of Long Island, presenting “A Star Spangled Spectacular,” a patriotic revue of American music.

Salute to Veterans is presented by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums. The concert is free of charge and will take place at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre, near Parking Fields 6 and 6A. Special accommodations are available for persons with disabilities, including reserved parking, accessible restrooms, and a convenient reserved location on the hill. In addition, assistive hearing devices will be available free of charge for the hearing impaired.

In addition to the 24th Annual Salute to Veterans, the Nassau County Dental Society’s public outreach and access to care the Nassau County Dental Society (NCDS), a component of the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA), will be providing oral health to their veterans and constituents at this event. The Nassau County Dental Society’s dentists will volunteer their time to provide oral cancer screenings, free of charge, to the veterans and residents of Nassau County. All residents of Nassau County are welcomed to attend and partake in a free screening at the Lakeside Theatre between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

There is no formal seating at Lakeside, so concertgoers should bring folding chairs or blankets. If weather conditions are doubtful, call (516) 572-0355 after 6:15 p.m. for updated performance information. Programs are subject to change.

The Summer Concert Series at the Lakeside Theatre is made possible through proceeds collected from visitors staying in hotel and motel rooms throughout Nassau County. Since 2006, more than $10 million has been collected from these hotel stays. Nassau County residents benefit from the collection of funds through summer concerts, family programming, cultural enhancements and historic building restorations.
