Nassau County Mourns The Loss Of Police Officer Arthur Lopez

Flags at County Government Buildings Ordered to Half-Staff

Today is a tragic day for the County of Nassau as we mourn the loss of a hero. My deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Nassau County Police Officer Arthur Lopez of the Emergency Services Unit who lost his life in the line of duty earlier today, October 23, 2012. Police Officer Lopez’ dedication to keeping Nassau County safe deserves the highest recognition and sincere gratitude of our residents.

Officer Lopez was a highly decorated officer who joined the Nassau County Police Department in 2004. Officer Lopez is survived by his father Alfonso, mother Mirella and sister Charo.

On behalf of the people of Nassau County, I have ordered all Nassau County government buildings to fly our Nation’s flag at half-staff in memory of Police Officer Arthur Lopez.

Flags on County government buildings are to be flown at half-staff effective November 19, 2012 through December 19, 2012in honor of Nassau County Police Officer Arthur Lopez in honor of his service to the residents of Nassau County.

**Flags are currently being flown at half-staff until November 18, 2012 in honor of Nassau County Police Officer Joseph Olivieri who died in the line of duty on October 18, 2012.
