Mangano: Three FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers Now Open

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened three Disaster Recovery Centers for homeowners, renters, and business owners who sustained as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Specialists from the State of New York, FEMA, and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to survivors.

“The recovery center is a one-stop-shop for eligible survivors where they can meet with both state and federal representatives in order to get help as quickly as possible,” said County Executive Mangano. “I encourage residents who think they may qualify for federal aid or would like additional information on what disaster assistance programs are available to stop by the mobile Disaster Recovery Center, call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 or visit to register.”

FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center is a readily accessible mobile office where applicants may go to receive guidance regarding disaster recovery, clarification of any written correspondence received, Housing Assistance and Rental Resource information, resolutions to problems and referrals to agencies that may provide further assistance, status of applications being processed by FEMA, as well as U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) program information.

Visiting with a recovery specialist is not a requirement for survivors who want disaster assistance, but the centers are a convenient way for people to get answers to their questions about disaster aid and how to apply for it.
