Mangano Partners With Local Hospitals To Address Hurricane Sandy Health Concerns

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein today announced a partnership with North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems Department of Population Health and the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Center, Winthrop University Hospital Department of Occupational Health and Nassau University Medical Department of Occupational Health. These three hospitals have occupational health divisions which have expertise to field questions and concerns from residents regarding potential health problems associated with Hurricane Sandy.

County Executive Mangano stated “As our residents continue to cope with the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, this partnership provides an additional resource for those who may be experiencing adverse health effects. I welcome the assistance from our hospitals in supporting Nassau County residents as they continue to recover from the storm.”

The purpose of this partnership is to serve as a medical resource for Nassau County residents who may have been impacted from environmental hazards resulting from flooding or renovations after Hurricane Sandy. Possible medical concerns may include exposures from the following hazards: water contaminated with sewage/oil/gasoline; mold; household chemicals; carbon monoxide; asbestos; and lead.
