Mangano Hosts First Film Advisory Board Meeting

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano hosted the first Film Advisory Board Meeting which he formed in order to promote the resources Nassau County has to offer the film industry. The duties of the members of the board are to promote Nassau County and its sites as locations for filming activities, solicit available locations for film purposes that are listed with the Nassau County Film Office, serve as ambassadors of good-will for the film industry when dealing with different villages/cities/etc. in Nassau County, as well as to promote the County’s film festival – The Long Island International Film Expo (LIIFE).

Together, 30 plus movies and television shows resulted in $90 million being spent in the local economy, as well as producing revenue for the County. To stay on this path and aid in our economic recovery, the Nassau County Film Commission has hosted a Film Friendly Nassau County Location and Studio Tour of the County two years in a row. This business-friendly model encourages the industry to work in the region and create jobs in Nassau County and it is these new jobs, and new industries, that are so desperately needed here on Long Island. All members of the Board were appointed to a two year term by County Executive Mangano.

Movies and television shows are now being filmed in Nassau County on a regular basis. SALT, the major motion picture starring Angelina Jolie and the recently released, Man on a Ledge, were both largely shot in Nassau County. Additionally, many television shows are being filmed around Nassau. Royal Pains, the hit USA television show, is filmed on several locations throughout the County, including the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola. Other County facilities have also been used, including the Sands Point Preserve for filming of Fox's television show, Running Wilde, and the County jail for the television shows The Good Wife, Unforgettable and Person of Interest and the Smurfs Movie. Other movies and television shows filmed in the County include Arthur, White Collar, Gossip Girl, Boardwalk Empire, Wall Street II, Win-Win, Rescue Me, and Dark Horse.
