Mangano Pursues Bicycle Rental Facilities In Nassau County Parks

Building upon his Fit Nassau initiative to help resident live a healthy lifestyle, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on July 25th seeking the establishment of two bicycle rental concessions located at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

“Recreational cycling has become increasingly more popular as it provides everyone with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while taking part in a healthy activity. Bike riding offers healthy and family-friendly fun,” said County Executive Mangano. “We are committed to providing residents and visitors with a wide range of recreational activities in our parks, and biking along Nassau County’s paths and trailways is a great way to enhance the experience.”

Nassau County is requesting proposals from all individuals and firms that have interest in managing and operating rental stations to provide bicycles as well as the repair and sale of bicycle equipment accessories at the two County parks. The successful bidder may also suggest additional locations in the Nassau County parks system. Prospective vendors must have a history of community involvement as well as extensive experience in the bicycle rental business.

Cedar Creek Park is adjacent to a 4.5 mile paved bike path that runs along the Wantagh State Parkway before ending at Ocean Parkway. The New York State Department of Transportation has planned an additional 4.5 mile bike path to connect Ocean Parkway between the Wantagh Parkways and Captree State Park in the Town of Babylon.

Eisenhower Park, at 930 acres, is one of the largest public spaces in the New York metropolitan area – larger than Central Park. It has approximately 20 miles of paved bike paths.
