Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that The Devotions will perform a noontime concert on Wednesday, July 11th at Eisenhower Park, adjacent from Parking Field 6A. Admission is free.
The Devotions, a self-contained vocal harmony group and band, was formed in 1960 and is widely known for their multifaceted vocal abilities. The Devotions are best known for: Sentimental Reasons, Sunday Kind of Love, Snow White, Zindy Lu, Tears From A Broken Heart and Rip Van Winkle (#3 Billboard, 1964) as well as other notable songs. They have performed throughout the New York metropolitan area, including major venues such as Atlantic City, Madison Square Garden, Westbury Music Fair, PNC Arts Center as well as many other locations over the past 48 years. They have also had appearances on PBS-TV Doo Wop shows.
Group members include: Al Vieco (baritone), Neil Keeffe (2nd tenor), John Williams (1st tenor) and Joe Spano (prin. lead). Band members include Mike Banek (bass guitar), Steve DiFalco (drums), Jim Kanellos (sax), Frank Mackey (lead guitar) and Bob Petrone (keyboard).
This programming at the Lakeside Theatre is made possible through the Nassau County Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which are proceeds from taxes on hotel and motel rooms in Nassau County. Since 2006, Nassau County has received more than ten million dollars from the Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which also has assisted in historic building restoration and other cultural enhancements.
