Mangano Hosts Spring Break Activities For Children At Garvies Point Museum And Preserve

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County will host Spring Break Activities from Saturday, March 23rd through Saturday, March 30th at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. The event schedule is as follows:

Saturday, March 23: 1:00 p.m.

WORLD WATER DAYCelebrate World Water Day by observing our stream table demonstration. A stream table is an interactive and exciting way to illustrate how water erosion sculpts the landscape. Followed by a short hike down to the beach to observe these land features in nature. Also enjoy our film “Eyewitness: Weather” at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday, March 26: 11:00 a.m.

SEASHELL JEWELRY MAKING – Make a beautiful necklace or bracelet using a variety of seashells. Also enjoy our film “Eyewitness: Shell” at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m.

Wednesday, March 27: 1:00 p.m.

WOODS WALK: LOOKING FOR SIGNS OF SPRINGJoin us for a spring walk through the woods as we discover the rebirth of nature that occurs every year. Recycled Bird Houses 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Make a cool bird house using recycled materials that your backyard birds will love to nest in! All ages welcome. Enjoy our film “Eyewitness: Tree” at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, March 28: 12:30 pm

LIVE ANIMALS – Enjoy our live animal presentation to observe and learn about animals that live right here in our own backyard. Some animals you will see include Great Horned Owl, Virginia Opossum, Eastern Screech Owl and more! In cooperation with Tackapausha Museum & Preserve. Enjoy our film “All About Amphibians” at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m.

Friday, March 29: 11:00 a.m.

EYEWITNESS MOVIE MARATHON – Enjoy this wonderful series that makes the world of nature come alive with incredible imagery. The marathon will include popular Eyewitness films including fish, amphibian, reptile, dinosaur, bird, mammal, and the life. 35 minutes each. Especially suited for young viewers, these films can be enjoyed by all ages. Bring your own snacks!

Saturday, March 30: Sign- in by 10:30 am

DINOSAUR EGG HUNT & ACTIVITIES – Children and adults are invited to search for and collect “dinosaur” eggs with special prizes inside! Check out our awesome dinosaur table where you can learn about how dinosaurs lived and ate, you also get to see & touch real fossils! PLUS enjoy our dinosaur craft and film. Recommended for children between 3 – 10 yrs. Special program fee: $5.00 per person. Registration REQUIRED. Please register by Saturday, March 23.

Garvies Point Museum and adjoining 62-acre preserve are located at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. Museum General Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 5-12 yrs. All programs included with museum general admission except for Dinosaur Egg Hunt. All crafts require a separate $5.00 craft fee.
