NASSAU COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICE VOLUNTEERS SPONSOR THE
HOLIDAY PARTY FOR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE
ON DECEMBER 27TH

County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that the Social Services Volunteers of Nassau will be hosting their 36th Annual Holiday Party for children in foster care on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Marriott Hotel, located at 101 James Doolittle Boulevard, Uniondale, NY. “The Social Services Volunteers sponsor an incredibly heartwarming party for Nassau County youth who are in foster care. We are very grateful for their dedication and are fortunate to have such caring individuals giving back to our community,” said County Executive Mangano. “It is truly an inspirational day.”

Every child in foster care will receive a gift from Santa and Mrs. Claus. In addition to a disc jockey, the youngsters are invited to participate in a talent show along with many other activities sponsored by our community partners. Junior and Senior High School students in addition to several Girl Scout Troops throughout Nassau County will be setting up craft tables. Children in foster care can make beaded bracelets and necklaces, have their faces painted and get temporary tattoos. Several teenage groups have also helped the Social Services Volunteers in organizing the donated toys for the party and making sure every gift is wrapped, with over 400 gifts wrapped and ready to give out on December 27th. Staff likewise contributes to this heartwarming event by donating more than 100 gift cards for the older youth who attend.

There are also a number of scholarships given to college bound teenagers to cover some of their school expenses. “While youth are in foster care, DSS staff works tirelessly to encourage high school seniors to continue with higher education,” stated DSS Commissioner John E. Imhof. “Our young people are the future of Nassau County and we want to give them the tools they need to be successful.”
