Mangano & Carney Announce Nassau County Chosen as Host Site for the Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness
Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano is pleased to announce that Nassau County will be a host site for the Long Island Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness. This national Summit, the first in New York State, will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14 & 15. Hofstra University will host an evening orientation reception on Tuesday June 14th at 5:00 p.m. at the Hofstra University Club and Adelphi University will host the full day Summit on Wednesday, June 15 from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation, the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative – Harvard School of Public Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, this summit is part of national initiative to foster greater cross-sector collaboration to prepare for and respond to emergencies. The Summit’s dynamic curriculum is designed by Harvard University faculty and tailored to the challenges business, government and nonprofit leaders face.
The Long Island Summit will include over 200 local leaders from government, business and nonprofits organizations with an interest in building organizational connections to strengthen community emergency preparedness and ensure an effective response to public health and safety crises. Participants will learn critical leadership skills from Harvard University faculty that will help protect their organization and community in a crisis.
“Nassau County is honored to partner with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation along with many of our human service agency partners in hosting the Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness on Long Island. We look forward to this partnership which will allow us to further strengthen our existing infrastructure in responding to emergencies,” said County Executive Mangano.
“Collaboration is an important goal of the Summit; Partnering with leaders from business, government and nonprofit organizations allows for a more diverse response during a crisis,” said Nassau County Health Commissioner Maria Torroella Carney, M.D., F.A.C.P. “By hosting this Summit, Nassau County will gain additional skills from national experts in the field of emergency preparedness.”
“We will continue to build upon our successes, work together to further strengthen our emergency preparedness operations and protect the health and safety of the residents of Nassau County,” said Mangano. Under County Executive Mangano’s leadership, Nassau County has successfully responded to multiple public health and safety crises. One of Nassau County successes is the creation and utilization of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The MRC, a public-private partnership whose mission is to recruit, deploy and retain volunteer healthcare professionals who are able to contribute their skills and expertise in response to natural or man-made disasters and public health initiatives. To date, Nassau County has 725 licensed healthcare professional volunteers.
