Mangano Announces New, Free

Prescription Drug Discount Program

Discount Card Being Mailed to Residents at No Cost to Taxpayers

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced a new, free prescription drug discount program is now available for all Nassau County residents. This program was developed by Nassau County and ProAct Inc., a Pharmacy Management Company, to help lower prescription drug costs for all residents.

Beginning this week, the discount cards will be made available via a direct mailing to all households in Nassau County as well as at Nassau County agencies, pharmacies and at www.NYRxDiscountCard.com. The discount card may be used by residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. Residents will have a variety of purchase and service options that include retail, mail and internet; all supported with a toll-free helpdesk available 24 hours per day.

“Participation in this program is another example of Nassau County’s continuing efforts to assist residents with cost saving initiatives,” said County Executive Mangano. “Our partnership with ProAct represents a wonderful solution to the high costs associated with prescription drugs, and participation could not be easier. Simply present this card to receive discounts – no need for enrollment forms, no membership fees, and no cost to participants or Nassau County.”

ProAct is accepted at over 290 Nassau County pharmacies and can be used nationwide at more than 60,000 participating pharmacies. Participants can expect to save, on average, 10-20% on brand name prescriptions, and 20-70% on generic drugs. Residents with little to no prescription drug coverage will experience immediate savings, while those who have insurance will receive discounts on those prescriptions that are not covered by their plan.

“I am proud to offer this wonderful program to the residents of Nassau County, and I urge all to take advantage of the immediate savings that this discount card offers,” said Mangano.
