Legislator Abrahams to Host Internet Safety & Cyberbullying Forum

The lawmaker hopes to spread awareness of a fast-growing problem that greatly affects our youth

(MINEOLA, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams, D-Freeport, is hosting an internet safety and cyberbullying forum on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. The program, “Are You Aware of What You Share?” is designed for Nassau County patrons of all ages and will focus on bringing a greater awareness to a fast-growing problem amongst our youth.

Attendees will be given an in-depth look into cyberbullying, and learn of preventative measures that can be taken. Parents and children should know that posting pictures online, texting and communicating through social networking Web sites is not private. If it’s something you wouldn’t normally broadcast in real life, then it’s unwise to share it digitally, where it can be quickly passed along or stay posted on the Web forever.

Additionally, the Nassau County Police Department will be discussing the consequences of cyberbullying. Representatives from the Long Island Crisis Center and Child Abuse Prevention Services will also be in attendance.

Legis. Abrahams is encouraging all Nassau County residents to participate and bring family, friends and neighbors to this very informative event.
