Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Freeport), along with Mark Stevens of De Ja 34, The Next Generation Project and the Roosevelt Empowerment Committee, will be sponsoring the 7th Annual Empowerment Weekend, which is set to kick off Friday, May 31, 2013.
Families are invited to partake in a weekend of family, friendship and fun – and each day is free of cost to the community.
It all begins with a presentation (“Building and Growing a Strong Community”) at Zion Cathedral located at 312 Grand Ave. in Freeport, hosted by the Roosevelt Family Empowerment Committee. The event features a surprise Keynote Presenter as well as students of Roosevelt UFSD and special surprise guests!
Former notable Keynote Speakers and participants include: Stephen Jackson (San Antonio Spurs); Ron Artest (Los Angeles Lakers); comedian Joe Torry; Ray J, recording artist; William Hunter, president of the NBA Players Association; Judge Greg Mathis, syndicated reality TV court judge; Chris Broussard, ESPN sports analyst; and Stephen A. Smith, ESPN columnist, radio talk show host and TV personality.
On Saturday, the excitement continues with the “Family Empowerment Fun Fest & Picnic 2013” at Centennial Park in Roosevelt. Festivities include face painting, giveaways, food and a basketball tournament.
