Abrahams & Majority Democrats approve $161 M long-term capital improvement plan
Package includes improvements to Nassau Road and Brookside Avenue

Mineola, NY - The members of the Nassau County Legislature met in a special meeting on Wednesday, March 24 to approve $161 million in spending for a myriad of long-term capital projects, including $78 million that will be spent this year.

In a unanimous bi-partisan vote, legislators agreed to a compromised version of the original capital plan that would have called for the approval of $238 million for more than 70 projects.

“These capital projects are an investment in Nassau County’s future,” said Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead). “I am pleased that both sides of the aisle were able to agree on a compromise.”

Some of the capital projects in the 1st district include:

  • A $750,000 project for improvement for Brookside Avenue in Roosevelt and an $800,000 project for Nassau Road in Roosevelt.

Other County-wide projects include:

  • A study of the Nassau County HUB.
  • Mosquito control equipment for the Department of Public Works
  • Nassau Community College-refurbishing of plaza and repair to water damaged buildings
  • Eisenhower Park Veterans memorial rehabilitation.
  • 85 miles of road resurfacing in the county.
  • Improvements at several of the county’s parks-includes golf course and athletic fields renovation and improvements to pools and parking.
