Abrahams & legislature approve project to remark 500 miles of county roadways
Nassau County wins one-month use of alternative fuel vehicle!

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) and members of the legislature approved on Monday a pavement marking maintenance project that will refurbish 500 centerline miles of roadway, replacing the worn and faded markings with durable reflective pavement markings. While the total cost of the project is $1.2 million, the cost of the work is 80% reimbursable through a federal aid project and will cost the county just $253,906.

In addition, the legislature agreed to accept the loan of a 2004 Honda compressed natural gas Civic GX, an alternative fuel vehicle from American Honda Motor Company. The county is contemplating replacing a portion of its fleet with alternative fuel-efficient vehicles. The Director of Enviromental Coordination attended a conference on alternative fuel vehicles sponsored by the Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, at which the county won the use of the vehicle for one month.

"This is a great opportunity for the county to evaluate the use of alternative fuel vehicles, at no cost," said Abrahams.

The legislature also approved a local law amending county law to give the Director of the Planning Dept. the ability to appoint deputies and staff.

The next full session of the legislature will be on Monday, December 6 at 2 p.m.
