Abrahams and Dems Approve Preventative Measures to Ensure the Safety of his Residents

Mineola, NY- Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) and members of the Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved the renaming of a section of Jerusalem Ave. between Smith Street and Liberty Street, as "Kryston Batson Memorial Way" in memory of Kryston Batson who was hit by and car and killed in front of Turtle Hook Middle School in Uniondale.

"I have worked in cooperation with the Town of Hempstead and Councilwoman Goosby to reduce the speed limit and expand the school zone in an attempt protect the safety and welfare of our young children crossing the road for school", said Legislator Abrahams. "Kryston Baston Memorial Way, will now be a constant and visible reminder to residents that traffic safety should always be their first and foremost priority."

Approximately a year and a half ago, the closely-knit community of Hempstead was devastated by Kryston's accident and felt that something needed to be done. Wayne Tucker, a resident of Hempstead Township, whose daughter was a classmate of Kryston's, came forward to suggest the street renaming and dedication. His bright idea sparked an overwhelming majority of support from fellow residents and elected officials were contacted immediately.

"I was moved by this heartfelt story and really wanted to do something to help keep Kryston's memory alive, added Legislator Abrahams". "I extend my warmest gratitude to Mr. Tucker for coming forward with this idea and helping the Baston family remember their wonderful son."
