Abrahams Establishes Fund To Help Katrina Victims Here In Nassau County

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead), joined by the Brumfields, a relocated New Orleans family, representatives of City National Bank of Roosevelt and representatives of the Roosevelt Library, today announced the establishment of the First Legislative District Relief Fund to help Hurricane Katrina victims who have relocated to Nassau County.

In particular, Legislator Abrahams says the fund will assist families who were forced to evacuate from New Orleans several weeks ago after a breached levee flooded their city neighborhood. The families’ relocation here is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

"I am very pleased to be able to begin a fund that can help many families left homeless as a result of Hurricane Katrina," Legislator Abrahams said. "This is a terrible tragedy to have happened and everyone needs to help the relief effort. I encourage all residents that would like to help the relief efforts to send a check to the First Legislative District Relief Fund. Together we can help these devastated families thought this very difficult time."
