LEGISLATOR BECKER SPONSORS COST CUTTING LEGISLATION
Vehicle Control Act Passed Unanimously Nassau County Legislator Francis X. Becker (R-Lynbrook) sponsored cost cutting legislation which when in full effect could result in the reduction of the County's passenger vehicle fleet by 33% and yield over $1 million in savings and new revenue. "I am pleased to have been able to co-sponsor this legislation in a bipartisan action to help cut taxpayer costs," said Legislator Becker. "The Vehicle Control Act of 2000 will cut unnecessary government spending while yielding new revenue with the sale of surplus passenger vehicles." The Vehicle Control Act implements the following:
- No County car can be used for transportation to and from work by an employee unless that employee is on 24-hour call, and if that need has been documented - Insignia stickers will be required on all County vehicles, except those vehicles used for undercover work. In addition to the above, surplus vehicles will be sold at auction based on their Blue Book value, which is estimated to bring approximately $1 million in revenue. The Vehicle Control Act of 2000 was passed by the County Legislature at its meeting of February 28. It becomes effective upon the approval of the County Executive. |
