FLORAL PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES

THE NASSAU COUNTY FIRE COMMISSION “UNIT CITATION” AWARD

The Nassau County Fire Commission presented a “Unit Citation” award to the members of the Floral Park Fire Department at the Annual Commission Awards Ceremony for their heroic actions in response an emergency situation at a Floral Park home on December 6, 2009. This prestigious award recognizes the courage, professionalism and skill of the men & women who serve in the Floral Park Fire Department.

The following is a description of their actions prepared by the Fire Commission -

“Shortly after six in the morning on a particularly cold December 6th, the Floral Park Fire Department arrived at a working house fire with smoke showing from all four corners and a report of people trapped. During initial setup it was discovered that the residents had escaped but their son was trapped on the fully involved second floor. A concerted and well-coordinated mutual aide response, search and rescue effort evolved highlighted by a very difficult primary search under the worst conditions. Several fire rescuers were injured during the operation, which resulted in the rescue of a victim who, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Nonetheless, the effort was exemplary and deserving of praise and we proudly present the Fire Department Unit Citation to the officers and members of the Floral Park Fire Department.”
