Jacobs: There is Still Time to Save Money on Your Property Taxes

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) would like to remind residents that they still have the chance to save thousands of dollars on their property tax bills by taking full advantage of the many exemptions that are available to those residents who qualify.

For families living on limited incomes, the tax increases imposed by local school boards, town boards and the county legislature, impact our lives on many levels.

"There are many options available to residents to help save money on their taxes, said Legislator Jacobs. " In order for families to continue to live comfortably in their homes, they must be aware of the number of partial property tax exemptions available to them."

From September 1st through January 2nd, qualifying residents will be able to apply for exemptions in various categories:

  • Enhanced and Basic STAR School Property Tax Relief
  • Senior Citizens
  • Veterans
  • Volunteer Firefighter and Volunteer Ambulance Workers
  • Persons with Disabilities
  • Agricultural
  • Clergy or Religious Organization
  • Non-Profit
  • Home Improvement
  • Energy
  • Business

For questions or information on how to apply for property tax exemptions, please call Legislator Jacobs at 516-571-6216 or the Tax Assessors office at 516-571-1500. Applications must be completed and returned to the Department of Assessment before the January 2nd filing deadline.
