Democrats approve reappointment of Budget Review Director
County road renamed after two Nassau County heroes

Mineola, N.Y.- Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) was joined by members of the Democratic Majority in approving the reappointment of Eric Naughton, to the position of Director of the Office of Legislative Budget Review.

The Majority also approved the renaming of Mineola Avenue in Roslyn Heights as "Langone Brothers Avenue." The street will be named in honor of Peter and Thomas Langone of Roslyn, two emergency workers who perished in the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001.

Also approved during the legislature's September 8 meeting were resolutions authorizing the county attorney to compromise and settle the actions of Handley against Nassau in the amount of $35,000; Warren against Nassau for $150,000 and Fowler against Nassau in the amount of $75,000.

A resolution was also passed to correct erroneous assessments in the Town of Hempstead, the Town of Oyster Bay, the Town of North Hempstead and the City of Long Beach.

In other business, the following legislation passed through committee and will be scheduled to go before the full legislature at the next session on September 22:

  • The approval of the distribution of mortgage tax revenues to towns, villages and cities within Nassau. The Town of Hempstead will receive $6,125, 835; Town of North Hempstead-$1,873,054; The Town of Oyster Bay-$3,150,983; the City of Long Beach-$349,962 and the City of Glen Cove-$235,319.
  • The approval of the purchase of a Mechanical Sweeper, for $168,909.92 (includes a trade-in). The sweeper uses a waterless sweeping system, which allows for pollutant free sweeping and cold weather sweeping.
  • The purchase of two Hazardous Material Vehicles for the Nassau County Fire Marshall's Office, total cost of $329,958.

The next Legislative session is scheduled for September 22 at 2 p.m.
