Jacobs gains notoriety as subject of school project

Mineola, NY-Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) is no stranger to media attention. She's been interviewed by local cable stations, national TV networks and major newspapers, but all those pale in comparison to a multi-media project crafted by a former Plainview third grader Jessica Goldberg.

While Jessica is now in Middle School, several years ago she was a student at Old-Bethpage Elementary School and was also a member of the third grade enrichment program called Project Challenge. Jessica focused on Presiding Officer Jacobs as the subject of her report entitled, "A Great Leader in Politics, Our Legislator Judy Jacobs." She created a CD presentation, complete with photos, biographical information and a lovely narration to give the viewer a portrait of the Presiding Officer of Nassau County. Jessica even invited Jacobs to the class way back then to meet the other students.

"No one else in my third grade project challenge group invited their report to the class," writes Jessica. "You couldn't invite your person if they were dead, but some of our reports are still alive today."

"I was flattered to be chosen as the subject of Jessica's project and extremely impressed by her work," said the very-much alive Jacobs.

Jessica included photos of Jacobs with her family, and also added some personal original drawings too. She also imagined a future "Judy Jacobs Museum," and gives viewers a tour.

"Judith Jacobs is a good leader in her field," writes Jessica. "Because she doesn't pretend to listen but really isn't. To be a good leader like Judy Jacobs you have to believe in yourself. You have to be kind."

Now, several years later, Jacobs finally got to see the finished product of Jessica's multimedia presentation. Jacobs is considering posting Jessica's work on her website, with the author's permission, of course.

"I think it would be delightful addition to the usually government-issued information," said Jacobs.
