Legislator Ford Wins Fight to Save Long Beach Public Transportation

Funding for the N69 Bus Route Approved in Full Legislature

May 18, 2006, Mineola, NY --Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford (R-Long Beach) announced today that all 19 members of the Legislature approved her request for $75,000 for the N69 bus which is operated by the City of Long Beach. The N69 bus route provides frequent and convenient public transportation for residents who live between Point Lookout, Lido and the City of Long Beach.

In the past, Nassau County has contributed a $60,000 annual subsidy to fund the route, which provides a vital link from Point Lookout through Lido Beach to downtown Long Beach. This year, due to Legislator Ford’s initiative, the Legislative Body has appropriated additional funds totaling $75,000 to continue this much needed bus route in the wake of skyrocketing gasoline costs.

“I have long requested this additional funding to offset additional costs to the City of Long Beach” and “I am delighted this bus will continue to serve our residents who need public transportation to the many varied services our city offers” continued Legislator Ford.
