Urges Residents to Make a Difference
Become a part of the Nassau County Emergency Response Team
        Mineola, NY –
Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) announced today
that Nassau County is looking for volunteers for the Community Emergency
          Response Team (CERT) program.

“I urge residents to partake in this wonderful opportunity, said
Legislator Abrahams. “As a CERT volunteer you will be providing
a dutiful service to your community, as well as, protecting the welfare
and quality of life of your fellow neighbors.”

(CERT) is a federally, funded community-based program that educates
and provides basic training so communities and individuals are better
prepared to respond in an emergency situation. When emergency or disaster
strikes, CERT members can give critical support to first-line responders
and provide immediate assistance to their communities within a coordinated,
collaborative, and organized effort. CERT members can also help with
the non-emergency preparedness projects that help improve the overall
          safety of the community.

The Nassau County CERT program will incorporate partnerships between
community members, OEM, the Long Island VOAD (Voluntary Organization
Active in Disaster), and emergency response agencies and requires a
commitment of time and resources from all participants. The program
will specifically address community emergency preparedness issues and
ways in which the community can be included in education initiatives
and coordinated efforts during emergencies and disasters.

“The CERT course is taught in your community by a trained team
of first-line responders”, added Abrahams. “If you or someone
you know is interested in becoming part of the Nassau County Emergency
Response team. Please contact the Emergency Management Office at 573-0636
and ask for Jennifer Mincin or Lt. Bob Beckman.”
