Abrahams: Flu vaccines now available for those who qualify

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) and the Nassau County Department of Health recently announced that 3,600 doses of influenza vaccine will be available at the Nassau Health Care Corporation's six Health Centers for all eligible Nassau County Residents.

"Residents can make appointment at their nearest health center by calling the 24 hour hotline at 516-393-7453," said Legislator Abrahams. "If you do not have the opportunity to receive the vaccination this time, there will also be additional opportunities to receive one at a later time, when 20,000 additional doses become available in late December and another 20,000 in January."

Flu shots will be administered from Monday, December 13th through Friday, December 17th and are available at Community Health Centers for residents who are:

  • Aged 24 to 64 years with serious medical conditions (physicians note required)
  • Pregnant (physicians note required)
  • Aged 65 years and older.

Community Health Centers are located in

  • Elmont CHC - 161 Hempstead Turnpike
  • Freeport-Roosevelt CHC - 460 North Main Street
  • Hempstead CHC-100 Main Street
  • Inwood-Lawrence CHC - 270 Lawrence Avenue
  • Long Beaach Satellite CHC - 615 Riverside Blvd.
  • Westbury-New Cassel CHC - 682 Union Avenue

In addition, letters from the Nassau County Department of Health have been faxed to almost 4,000 Nassau County doctors offering them limited amounts of flu vaccine. These physicians are now in the process of receiving a small amount of the vaccine and will follow the CDC's list of recommended high priority patients.
