“In Nassau County emergency services are performed by volunteers who daily risk their lives in order to protect our safety and well being,” said Legislator Abrahams. “We are proud to provide this partial tax exemption to our selfless volunteers.”

According to Legislator Abrahams, the amount of the tax exemption will now be up to 10 % of the assessed value of the property owned by an enrolled member of a volunteer fire department or fire company. The applicant must reside in the city, town or village, which is served by the fire department, and the applicant must occupy the property. Applicants who qualify would file with the County Tax Assessor’s Office.
