January 3, 2001 Williams Supports Co-STAR Tax Relief
Proposed Statewide Plan Calls for Rebate for Senior Homeowners Nassau County Legislator Patrick Williams (D-Uniondale) voiced his strong support for the state proposed Co-STAR tax rebate, unveiled earlier this week. The Co-STAR plan will complement the existing STAR (School Tax Relief) plan by providing an additional average saving of $170 per year for senior citizens living in Nassau County. The plan also offers a tax rebate for farmers. The STAR program was initiated three years ago to provide reductions in local property taxes for homeowners of all ages. Through the plan, school districts are reimbursed by the state for reductions in local property taxes. "Offering additional tax relief to our senior citizen homeowners will help alleviate some of the financial burden on their limited incomes," said Legislator Williams in a joint statement from the Democratic majority. "I fully endorse this tax rebate plan and look forward to it being implemented." |
