July 11, 2002 Williams approves renaming old county courthouse
Mineola, NY - Legislator Patrick Williams (D-Uniondale) joined members of the Democratic majority at a legislative meeting this week in renaming the old Nassau County Courthouse the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building. The official renaming ceremony was to be held on Saturday, July 13, the anniversary of the July 13, 1900 date when Roosevelt, then Governor of New York State, laid the cornerstone for the building. The measure was unanimously approved. During a Rules Committee meeting, Legislator Williams approved a resolution that would change the name of Nassau Beach to Eugene H. Nickerson Memorial Park at Nassau Beach in recognition of the late Judge and former Nassau County Executive. The item will come before the full legislature at its July 22 meeting. Also approved by the Rules Committee was the appointment of Frank J. Ryan to the position of Director of Purchasing for the County's Department of Purchasing. His appointment is expected to be confirmed during the July 22 meeting. Legislators moved the Nassau Community College Budget through committee without discussion during the July 8 meeting and it will be brought before the full legislature for a hearing on July 22.
