November 5, 2003 Abrahams captures 84% of vote in Legislative race
Mineola, NY - Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Uniondale), elected in a special election in 2002 to fill seat of former Legislator Patrick Williams, won his first full term as a Nassau County Legislator handily on Tuesday, November 4, capturing 84% percent of the vote in the 1st Legislative District. "I am deeply honored and humbled by the ongoing support of my constituents. Their trust in me and my ability to help Nassau County turn the corner toward financial stability is vitally important to my individual goals and the greater goals of the administration and Democratic majority. I am confident that we will continue to make strides toward fiscal solvency and that residents will again be proud to be a part of this great county," said Legislator Abrahams. Legislator Abrahams, who served as the legislative majority's assistant budget director prior to his election, handily beat his Republican opponent Ricardo LaRosa, by a 5,654 to 1,039 vote. "I believe the numbers illustrate a clear mandate from the people that they like what we have been doing and that they want us to continue. They understand the necessity of doing what needed to be done to get the county back on the right track. Nassau County residents can again hold their heads up high. I will continue to ensure we never take a step back to the way things were. We have come too far," said Legislator Abrahams. With the win, the Democratic majority keeps its 10-9 edge over the Republicans in the legislature and allows County Executive Thomas Suozzi to move forward on his agenda of restoring fiscal health to Nassau County. |
