June 3, 2005 Legislator Ford Secures Funding for Long Beach Bus and Long Beach Schools Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford (R-Long Beach) has secured funding for the N69 bus route which serves the residents of Point Lookout, Lido Beach, and Long Beach and additional funding for a PILOT program with the Long Beach School District. The county will be providing a $120,000 subsidy to the City of Long Beach for the operation of the N69 bus route, and nearly $500,000 will be transferred to the Long Beach School district. Both items are expected to be approved by the Nassau County Legislature during the June 6th meeting. Nassau County has been contracting with the city of Long Beach to provide bus service between Point Lookout/Lido Beach and the Long Beach railroad station since 1990. The $120,000 payment will reimburse the city for years 2003 and 2004 when the county did not subsidize the service. “I am pleased to say that after working with the administration on this matter, I have been able to secure funding that the county owes to the City of Long Beach for the operation of the N69 bus line. Going forward, I plan on working to ensure that the funding for the N69 bus is secured in a more timely manner, so this important transportation link on the barrier island is maintained for years to come,” said Legislator Ford. In addition, Legislator Ford has secured long overdue funding for the Long Beach School District’s PILOT program which commenced in 1999. “One of my main objectives when I came to the Legislature was to secure the funding that the Long Beach School District deserved. I am proud to say, that through hard work and perseverance, the Long Beach School District will receive the PILOT program money it has been promised to enhance the education of our children,” added Legislator Ford. |
