NASSAU COUNTY RECEIVES GRANT FOR "SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM"

Legislator Vincent T. Muscarella (R-West Hempstead), yesterday voted to approve a state issued grant to implement a "Selective Traffic Enforcement Program" on numerous key roadways in Nassau County. The program was started by current New York State Governor George E. Pataki and is targeted at reducing aggressive driving; speeding and impaired driving related motor vehicle crashes. The program will be conducted in cooperation with the Nassau County Police Department, and the Police Departments from the Villages of Freeport, Garden City, and Rockville Centre.

The $136,000 grant has been allocated among the participating police departments to be used for cracking down on dangerous driving. "This program will help make the roadways of Nassau County safer for all residents. It is specifically designed to reduce the problem of aggressive driving and impaired drivers," said Legislator Muscarella. The program will seek to increase the police presence on the streets of Nassau County and target bad drivers who could pose safety concerns to themselves other drivers and pedestrians. "This program will put more police officers out on the streets specifically looking for the type of behavior that could possibly lead to incidents on the roadways," added Legislator Muscarella.
