February 28, 2000 GOP LEGISLATORS TO SPONSOR RESOLUTION FORCING COUNTY EXECUTIVE TO PRESENT FISCAL ACTION PLAN
In an effort to force the County Executive to present a fiscal action plan to the County Legislature, Minority Leader Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa) will introduce a resolution directing that the County Executive present a plan no later than March 27 to the Legislature. "Both Standard and Poors and Moody's have sent clear signals to the Administration that now is the time for action, not words," said Legislator Schmitt. "It is incumbent upon the County Executive to demonstrate leadership and present to the Legislature a plan to address the fiscal problems for FY 2000." The resolution, which will be presented at this evening's meeting of the County Legislature, directs the County Executive to develop a plan, with appropriate justification and analysis for each element. Elements in the plan should include, but are not limited to: - Administrative Actions to cut spending - Departmental Consolidations - Management and Operational Efficiencies "We recognize that it would be imprudent to expect the County Executive to present a comprehensive 5-year plan to the Legislature in this time frame. On the other hand it is his job as the CEO of the County to take action now," said Legislator Schmitt. Recently, H. Carl McCall, New York State Comptroller, endorsed the call for immediate action to be taken by the County Executive. "As I stated one week ago, we stand ready to work 24 hours, seven days a week to get the job done. We await the County Executive's plan," concluded Mr. Schmitt. |
