REPORT ON BENEFIT PLAN ADMINISTRATORS (BPA) RELEASED
Report Contains 7 Findings and 6 Recommendations

Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) and Minority Leader Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa) have received and are releasing today the final report authored by Justice Milton Mollen regarding Benefit Plan Administrators (BPA).

The 63-page report is the end result of 6 days of hearings held by the County Legislature, the testimony of 28 witnesses and the examination of over 1200 pages of testimony obtained during the Legislative investigation. As a result of the Legislature's action $19 million in taxpayer dollars was recovered from BPA as part of an overall settlement of the matter.

"We are thankful to Justice Mollen for this thorough and insightful report. The BPA experience was a difficult one for all of the members of the Legislature. The report contains solid recommendations as to how the County can move forward and learn from what can only be considered a debacle," said Legislators Jacobs and Schmitt.

Justice Mollen's findings and recommendations are attached.

"We would like to conclude by again thanking Justice Mollen for all of his assistance and expertise in this matter. In addition, we would be remiss if we did not thank former Presiding Officer Bruce Blakeman, former Minority Leader Bruce Nyman, the members of Rules Committee, and Counsels Chuck Cutolo and Ed Ambrosino for the hard work and dedication that they demonstrated throughout this entire process," concluded Legislators Jacobs and Schmitt.

Copies of the report can be obtained from the Clerk's Office of the County Legislature and will be posted on the Legislature's web site shortly.
