December 8, 2004 Jacobs approves purchase of five new ambulances for county Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) and members of the legislature's Rules Committee approved on Monday the purchase of five new ambulances for the county. The ambulances will cost $140,000 each, fully equipped. "The county's aging ambulance fleet has been in dire need of new vehicles and I am pleased that the legislature has approved this important purchase," said Presiding Officer Jacobs. In addition, the full legislature approved the sale of several lots of county-owned land in Inwood to the Long Island Housing Partnership. The county will be sponsoring the development of eight affordable housing units on the site. The affordable units will sell for $150,000. To qualify, a family of four must make less than $68,250. The legislature approved the official naming of Nassau County field "D" softball field located in Eisenhower Park to now be known as the Ed Dressler Memorial Field in honor of Mr. Dressler, who was part of the Field Coordination Unit for the Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks, passed away in 2003. He was with the county for over 30 years and was affectionately known as "Mr. Softball." The legislature also approved the reappointment of Democratic Elections Commissioner Jeffery Stein and the Republican Elections Commissioner John DeGrace. The next full session of the legislature will be on Wednesday, December 15 at 2 p.m. It is the last full session of the year. |
