Jacobs and Rules Committee approve settlement with 'Carltun on the Park'
Legislature approves funds for Office of Emergency Management for communications
Mineola, NY - At the March 10 meeting of the Nassau County Legislature, the Majority members approved a $100,000 appropriation to the Office of Emergency Management for the purpose of purchasing computers and communications equipment.
The funds come from a New York State grant at no cost to the County.
The Legislature's Rules Committee approved a proposed settlement that would amend the lease agreement between the County and the Carltun on the Park restaurant in Eisenhower Park. The Carltun case has been described by Majority members, as "one of the most egregious of the sweetheart leases promulgated by the Gulotta administration." The original lease had a term expiration of 2016 and required that the county pay for all repairs to the facility.
A previous attempt at renegotiating the lease agreement was not approved by the legislature over two years ago.
"This new lease effectively amends the agreement in favor of the County by shifting the responsibility for all repairs to the Carltun," said Legislator Jacobs. According to Jacobs, following an approval by the full legislature on March 24, the Carltun, will now be responsible for repair costs and will drop its claims for offsets for repairs it claimed it was entitled to in the past, but which were not reimbursed by the County.
