Jacobs Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Never underestimate the importance of early detection

Mineola, NY – October is breast cancer awareness month and Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) strongly encourages women to protect themselves from breast cancer by receiving regular breast examinations and mammograms. To make it even more convenient, she has invited the mammography van to the Plainview Shopping Center, on October 26 th to offer all women, over the age of 40, the opportunity to receive a free, onsite mammography screening.

“Every twelve minutes another women dies from breast cancer, said Legislator Jacobs. “Not only are these statistics real, but also quite frightening. By increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing free mammograms to those in need I hope to be part of this crusade to save lives.”

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is dedicated to increasing awareness of breast cancer issues, especially the importance of early detection. It works through a nationwide education campaign aimed at the general public, state and federal governments, health care professionals, employers, and women of all ages and ethnic groups.

Although breast cancer cannot be completely prevented, making smart, conscious lifestyle decisions greatly reduces breast cancer risks, added Jacobs.
