Abrahams Announces New Health and Human Services Building Now Up and Running

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) today announced that the new Nassau County Health and Human Services building is now officially up and running. All operations previously housed at the Mineola office of the Department of Social Services located at 101 County Seat Drive have been transferred to the Health and Human Services Building located at 60 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale.

The move is part of the County's "No Wrong Door" initiative, an innovative smart government program that provides significantly enhanced service to Nassau County's human services clients, while at the same time allowing the County's eight health and human services departments, which are now consolidated into a single facility with a simplified intake process, to operate more efficiently. "No Wrong Door" is a new model for Nassau County and is on the cutting edge of government service delivery nationwide./p>

"Moving our eight health and human services departments into one state of the art facility is a dramatic step forward in making Nassau County government both more compassionate and smarter," said Legislator Abrahams. "The County can now better serve the public, while in the long run saving taxpayers money by putting an end to inefficiency and waste. Our County residents no longer will have to travel from building to building to receive all the services they need."

The eight health and human services departments include the Departments of Social Services, Health, Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol, Senior Citizen Affairs, Youth Board, Veterans Service Agency, and the Office for the Physically Challenged. The move of these departments makes it possible for the County to deliver improved government services in a cost-effective manner. The new building also features a comfortable and inviting waiting room and a welcome desk staffed with trained customer service professionals to greet and guide residents.
