June 12, 2003 LEGISLATOR BECKER URGES COUNTY TO USE RECYCLED MOTOR OIL Nassau County Legislator Francis X. Becker, Jr. (R-Lynbrook) has filed legislation with the Clerk of the Legislature mandating that the County purchase recycled motor oil for it's fleet of vehicles. Re-refined motor oil uses less energy than refining motor oil from crude. This switch will also reduce the negative environmental impacts from the disposal of used motor oil. "With the uncertain conditions of oil producing regions around the world, the County needs to take a proactive approach to conservation," said Legislator Becker. According to the legislation, the County will purchase recycled motor oil when the price is reasonably competitive to the price of refined motor oil. "This legislation will most certainly not solve our pollution problems, but it is a start. I hope to see more conservation moves like this one made by Nassau County in the future," added Legislator Becker. |
