LEGISLATOR GONSALVES URGES RESIDENTS TO ATTEND MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM ON MAY 24

Nassau County Legislator Norma Gonsalves (R-East Meadow) has helped to arrange a program on Mosquito Control and the West Nile Virus, for Wednesday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the East Meadow Public Library located on Front Street and East Meadow Avenue.

According to Legislator Gonsalves, the program is being hosted by the Council of East Meadow Community Organizations (CEMCO) and is intended to provide the public with the most current West Nile virus information available from the Federal EPA, the New York State DEC and the Nassau County Department of Health.

Nassau County Health Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Gaffney will be on hand to respond to residents' questions and to detail the Mosquito Control Program undertaken by the Health Department. This program involves a call for all residents to join in efforts against the threat of West Nile virus.

"It is my understanding," said Legislator Gonsalves, "that a major portion of the Health Department's efforts continue to involve aggressive preventive measures that will, hopefully, decrease the number of mosquitoes that are present this season. To this end, we, as residents, will do well to learn just what steps we can take on our own properties to discourage mosquito breeding sites."

Legislator Gonsalves would like to thank CEMCO and its president, Joseph Parisi, for hosting this important forum. "I hope residents will consider attending this informative program," added the Legislator.
