April 7, 2005 Jacobs named one of 50 most powerful people on Long Island by the L.I. Press Mineola, NY-Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) has been named by the Long Island Press as one of the most influential Long Islanders in its Third Annual "Power List." Honorees are chosen by the Press' editorial staff and publishers. The list of 50 consists of a wide variety of contributors to the island's growth and prosperity, ranging from elected officials to members of the clergy. "It's a thrill to have made the Long Island Press's power list," said Legislator Jacobs. According to the Press, the awards recognize the "extraordinary achievements of some individuals and the extraordinary influence of others while prodding a few to make full use of their power." Legislator Jacobs is serving her fifth term as a Nassau County Legislator, representing the 16th Legislative District. The Press noted that Jacobs was able to settle a 2005 budget agreement that resolved some sticky issues, and even had the wherewithal to go against the county executive by proposing whistle-blower protections in the wake of the Sylver scandal. The Long Island Press will be presenting all 50 Powerful People in its April 7, 2005 issue. |
