for local road improvements
Mineola, NY - Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) will be keeping a close eye on Washington over the next few weeks as a federally funded $14 million local transportation package awaits approval in the House and Senate. The package, which will fund highway, transit and safety projects over a six-year period, includes two top priority items that Legislator Jacobs has been guiding through the long process of environmental studies, approvals and funding for quite some time. The projects- Woodbury Road in Woodbury and Jackson Avenue in Syosset are part of the County's newly approved capital improvement projects. Jackson Avenue in Syosset, is scheduled to undergo $100,000 in improvements and the County plan also calls for $1.2 million for the completion of the Woodbury Road-Syosset/Woodbury Road intersection, where road improvements will be made to the intersection and a traffic signal will be installed and left turn lanes added. Congressman Steve Israel has been able to include money for these projects in the $14 million federal package, but first the proposed package must pass through the House and Senate for approval. "I have written to both Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Hillary Clinton strongly urging them to advocate for these items as the bill passes through the Senate," she said. "Both these projects are certainly worthy of additional funds and by working together we can transform these areas into safer locations for drivers and pedestrians." |
