May 1, 2000 LEGISLATOR BECKER APPROVES
CONTRACT OVERSIGHT PROCESS Issue Goes to Voters on November 7 Voting to increase legislative oversight over personal service contracts issued by the County Executive, County Legislator Francis X. Becker (R-Lynbrook) voted in support of a local law that would amend the County Charter requiring legislative approval on all personal service contracts that exceed $25,000. Previously, this oversight was permitted via a memorandum of understanding between the Presiding Officer and the County Executive. To permanently effectuate this change the proposed Charter amendment must be approved by the public by way of a ballot referendum this Election Day, November 7. "I am pleased to have voted to support this local law to increase legislative oversight over the County Executive's granting of personal service contracts," said Legislator Becker. "I urge the public to vote YES on this proposal on November 7 to ensure that the County Legislature has strict oversight of tens of millions of dollars in contracts issued by the County Executive." |
