Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) was presented with a plaque to honor him for his dedicated service to the youth of the Malverne School District community and his service to the Friendship Games and the Derrick Adkins Holiday Classic Track and Field Meet by Derrick Adkins when the event was held over the spring break. The meet was open to all high school athletes competing with their high school team and was held at the Mitchel Park Complex. It was highlighted by four boys and girls invitational events.
“This great event created for kids has been going on for the past 10 years and I’m always so happy to be involved,” Legislator Abrahams said. “Derrick, who is from Lakeview, made us all proud when he won the 400 meter hurdle in the Olympics in 1996. This competition was his idea, created to inspire local teenagers to be the best they could be, try their hardest, and have some good old fashioned fun. I enjoy seeing them participate every year.”
