Mangano Helps High-Tech Manufacturer Create And Retain Local Jobs
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the approval of an Industrial Development Agency (IDA) economic development compact that allows Designatronics - a high-technology manufacturer now located in New Hyde Park - to expand its operations in Hicksville while retaining nearly 240 jobs and adding 20 new employees to its workforce. Mangano Rescues Troubled Affordable Housing Opportunities In New Cassel
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the approval of an Industrial Development Agency (IDA) economic development compact that will allow Bedford Construction Group, a Valley Stream developer, to rescue an abandoned and incomplete affordable housing opportunities and retail space in New Cassel. The project, which began in 2005 and then was halted, is expected to be complete within six months. The project includes the completion of 12 apartments, seven affordable and five at market rate, in an underserved community.

Mangano Administration Receives $50K Award From State To Enhance Child Protective Services
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) awarded Child Protective Services (CPS), a program within the Department of Social Services (DSS), a $50,000 grant to enhance service delivery to children and families. This money is being used to acquire mobile technology, which will improve communications between CPS workers and their supervisors and most notably, allow CPS workers to better assist families in locating neighborhood resources.

Mangano Opens Transit Oriented Affordable Rental Opportunities In Hempstead
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today officially opened Village Lofts, a 29-unit transit-oriented rental development in the Village of Hempstead. This new housing opportunities, located at 479 Front Street, contain 23 (80%) workforce housing units and 6 (20%) affordable housing units. Village Loft is one of several residential developments assisted by the Mangano administration. Other projects include Jefferson Plaza in Farmingdale (154 units – under construction), Landmark in Great Neck Plaza (93 units – now open), Mill Creek Residential in Mineola (311 units – under construction), Mineola Properties in Mineola (315 units – under construction) and MPA Owners in Westbury (6 units – under construction). Recently, County Executive Mangano earmarked Federal funds to study the conversion of empty office space into residences in Baldwin, Lynbrook and Valley Stream.

Mangano's Economic Policies Result In Stronger Job Market
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano’s economic policies of freezing property taxes for four straight years and creating local jobs have resulted in increased sales tax receipts and lower unemployment. This week, the New York State Department of Labor released statistics indicating a drop in unemployment to 5.9% this October marks the first time the unemployment rate has fallen below 6% since 2008. Several weeks ago, budget officials received Nassau's quarterly sales tax return which grew by 17%, bringing the year-to-date growth in sales tax receipts to over 9% or $68 million above that of 2012. This significant increase in sales tax receipts, along with Nassau County having an unemployment rate under 6%, is clearly the result of County Executive Mangano's economic and job creation policies.

Legislature Approves Funds For Mangano's Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant Repair Plan
The Nassau County Legislature today approved County Executive Edward P. Mangano’s plan to utilize a no-interest, 100% reimbursable loan of approximately $465 million from the State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) to repair the Hurricane Sandy-stricken Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant. Under the plan, 90% of the repair expenses will be reimbursed by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the remaining 10% will be reimbursed by Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds provided to Nassau County by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano unveiled a technological upgrade to the current system in place for victims of family and domestic violence. A new unprecedented Panic Alarm Program will be available for victims of domestic violence that will replace the current Caper system. The wireless panic alarm will connect directly with the Nassau County Police Department’s Communications Bureau. The wireless device will be activated just by pushing the button. Once the button is pushed, a two-way microphone communication is established between the alarm and the Nassau County Police Department Communications Bureau that will stay activated and will record until terminated by the Police Department. Furthermore, the alarm gives a GPS location to the Nassau County Police Department, thereby generating an accurate location for responding officers.

Mangano Policy Of Freezing Property Taxes Results In Continued Strong Sales Tax Growth And Job Creation
A result of Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano's policy of freezing property taxes for four straight years, budget officials today received Nassau's quarterly sales tax returnwhich grew by 17%, bringing the year-to-date growth in sales tax receipts to over 9% or $68 million above that of 2012. Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the Nassau County Department of Health join Safe Kids Nassau County in promoting pedestrian safety awareness this Halloween. With the days getting shorter, children are likely to be trick-or-treating in the dark when it is harder for drivers to see them and the excitement of the holiday can make everyone less cautious. A Safe Kids 2011 study revealed that only one third of parents talk to their children yearly about Halloween safety. Mangano announced today that the Nassau County Department of Social Services Office of Investigations continues to find individuals attempting to defraud Nassau County taxpayers, most recently discovering elaborate schemes to cheat the system out of $362,000. $1.25 Million in criminal welfare fraud has been uncovered in 2013, and $3.4 million since 2011. Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the Cradle of Aviation Museum present free to our Veterans, Family & Friends, the movie Honor Flight, One Last Mission. Honor Flight is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle. The trips are called “Honor Flights” and for the veterans, who are in their late 80s and early 90s, it’s often the first time they’ve been thanked and the last trip of their lives. The 24-hour journey is full of surprises that deeply move all who are involved. It’s uncommon for World War II veterans to talk about the War, but the Honor Flight experience brings their stories out. Mangano: County On Pace To Secure A Record $10 Million In Benefits For Veterans in 2013
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the County Veteran Service Agency (VSA) has secured a record amount of earned cash benefits for local veterans. According to data released by the United States Veterans Administration, counselors at the Nassau County VSA have significantly increased the annual total amount of cash awards received by Nassau County veterans from $929,921 in 2006 to $5 million in the first half of 2013. The scholarship was placed in jeopardy as Federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant funds are no longer available for the program. Mangano, Cuomo Announce FEMA Emergency Assistance for Homeowners
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that FEMA will issue Emergency Assistance for New Yorkers whose homes were affected by Hurricane Sandy. At the Governor’s request, FEMA will bring in contractors in order to perform basic repairs so that residents can return to their homes while more long term repairs are in progress. Only residents in the federally-declared counties are eligible to participate in this program. Continuing his efforts to prevent prescription drug abuse and save lives, County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau is the first county in the state to have been granted certification from the New York State Department of Health to administer a Drug Overdose Prevention Program. The state certification enables the County to train its employees as well as the families of at-risk individuals in administering an overdose reversal agent, known as Narcan or naloxone, to anyone who has ingested large amounts of opioids and who is in a life-threatening situation. Mangano: Auto Auctions Net Nearly A Half Million Dollars For Taxpayers
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano’s initiative to sell off excess inventory rather than repair it has proved to be a successful recovery method for taxpayers. The recent auction of 15 County-owned Orion Buses, formerly part of the Long Island Bus fleet, pushed the total proceeds from the sale of surplus county vehicles to $400,475. The buses, which were owned by the County but used by the MTA when it ran Long Island Bus, have reached the end of their useful life. Mangano today furthered his commitment to protecting overburdened taxpayers by releasing a Deficit Reduction Plan that cuts the size of government while not raising property taxes.
