A family-oriented weekend filled with presentations by famous athletes, children’s entertainment, a showcase of local talent, important health testing and information as well as free food, giveaways, a clown and raffles is planned by The Roosevelt Empowerment Committee and Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) for June 3 and June 4, this Friday and Saturday.
Legislator Abrahams said, “On Friday, June 3, at 7 p.m. in Zion Cathedral COGIC in Freeport everyone will have the opportunity to hear ESPN sports analyst Chris Broussard, the keynote speaker for the evening. Our own Andrew Quarless, of the 2011 Super Bowl Champions Green Bay Packers, will be present to speak to our young people about the issue of bullying and how to prevent it. As a special treat, everyone will be able to enjoy music and presentations from our local school children.”
On Saturday, June 4 at Centennial Park in Roosevelt beginning at 10 am, the family fun continues! There will be free food offered by Long Island Cares; Harvest for the World will be cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers; there will be face painting, a clown, and free snow cones for the children; a basketball tournament is scheduled; and local talent in music and song will be showcased. In addition, the NuHealth Mammography van will be located at Centennial Park (call 571-6201 and make an appointment) and medical professionals will have information available regarding HIV, Hypertension and Diabetes.
“Bring your family and friends to each event this weekend. Very important information and discussions to help our parents and teenagers face daily challenges will be available. And of course, there will be a wide variety of fun activities for everyone. Come down and join us for a great weekend,” said Legislator Abrahams.
