On January 16, 2011 Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) attended the 27th annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration and Awards Ceremony held by the United Black Christians of the Congregational Church of South Hempstead. During the celebration awards were given to the United Black Christians High School Scholarship recipients. They are Lance Mason and Lanier Mason. In addition, honors were given to Phyllis Raeburn Rahim, Donna Raphael and Darcel Whitten-Wilamowski. Musical guests for the afternoon included the Sister Thea Bowman Diocesan Gospel Choir, the Hempstead High School Voices of Virtue Choir and soloist Dominique Lee of the First Baptist Church of Great Neck. Legislator Abrahams congratulated and thanked the honorees for their hard work on behalf of our community.
