Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) today announced that he is sponsoring a youth basketball league at Centennial Park in Roosevelt for all interested youth throughout Nassau County. The Legislator Kevan Abrahams Roundball Classic (LKARC) is a volunteer-run organization in which the goal of the league is to utilize basketball as a sport to improve our children’s athletic excellence, leadership skills, self-confidence, experience teamwork and have fun!
The mission is to provide a realistic development program for young basketball players, both boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18. The league is dedicated to helping young people become better citizens through the medium of basketball. The energies and interests of youth are channeled into healthy pursuits that teach sportsmanship and teamwork and build personal confidence.
LKARC is capable of hosting 32 teams with 12 per team. The league will be segmented into 3 divisions. The season will begin the week of July 9th and will end the week of August 27th (eight weeks). Each team will play one game per week for a total of eight games. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Games that are played on Saturday will be played from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
